Like to fish? You can fish in the headwaters of the Arkansas River, in beautiful Turquoise Lake, Twin Lakes, which is located in the High Mountain Region’s southern sector, and in many smaller lakes and ponds sprinkled throughout the region.
Need a good adrenaline rush? You’ll find some of America’s most popular whitewater rafting in the Brown’s Canyon National Monument, just beyond the southern boundary of the High Mountain Region, with plenty of class 3 and 4 rapids.
Want to play golf? Try the 9-hole Mt. Massive Golf Course, the highest in America, where one par-five has Mt. Massive as an unforgettable back- drop for your shots. In the winter, the golf course converts into a budding Nordic skiing Mecca, with miles of skier-friendly groomed trails.
For all of you speed demons, snowmobiling outfitters are abundant throughout the Big Valley at the center of the High Mountain Region.
If you like sliding downhill, you have come to the right place. Just north of the High Country Region, on easy to navigate all-weather highways, are some of the world’s great ski resorts – Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Copper Mountain and Keystone. Within the region is family-friendly Ski Cooper.
